UOW expresses condolences at the passing of the King of Thailand

¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings CBE, today expressed the ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s deepest condolences on the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.

“On behalf of the Chancellor, Council, staff, students and alumni of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½, I offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family, Government and people of Thailand on the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. 

“His Majesty will be remembered as a long-serving, unifying national leader who was dedicated to the service of his nation.”

 “He was revered by the people of Thailand and widely respected internationally as a leader who supported independence, human rights, education, peace and friendship between nations,” Professor Wellings said.

The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ has enjoyed a close association with Thailand and its Royal Family over many years and in 2002 was honoured to confer on His Majesty the degree of a Doctor of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ in recognition of his distinguished leadership and humanitarianism.

This is the only time in the ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s 41 year history that this distinguished honorary degree has been conferred.

 “The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ community around the world shares in your sadness at the passing of King Bhumibol. May he rest in peace,” Professor Wellings said.
