Tenth annual Coffee for a Cause raises money for learning and development.

Select coffee shops across UOW and ¾«¶«´«Ã½ are delivering more than just a caffeine hit this month, with the Coffee for a Cause campaign raising money for students in need.

This September is the tenth annual Coffee for a Cause, which forms part of the UOW Cares Staff Workplace Giving program. The Coffee for a Cause campaign supports students to reach their full potential by raising funds for the UOW Learning and Development Scholarship Fund (L&D) supporting student equity scholarships.

Throughout the month a number of cafes across the ¾«¶«´«Ã½, Innovation and Shoalhaven campuses are donating 20 cents from each coffee purchased and providing donation boxes for any loose change, as well as hosting morning or afternoon teas to raise additional funds.

Scholarship recipient Bianca Hunt, who is studying a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology and criminology, attended the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ campus morning tea on Wednesday 20 September to show her appreciation for the cause.

“Being a recipient of this scholarship has made life so much easier for me; it helps with things like purchasing textbooks, parking and having a computer to use for my study,” she said.

“Having less things to worry about means I’ve got more time to concentrate on my schooling and I’m well prepared.”

Bianca is the first person in her family to attend ¾«¶«´«Ã½, and hopes to set a positive example for her seven children to follow.

“My kids are very supportive of me and they know about the benefits of study, so even though it can be hard at times [balancing everything] we all have a future goal to get to.”

Since its inception in 2008, the Coffee for a Cause initiative has raised more than $27,000 for student equity scholarships.
