UOW’s MBA program among Australia’s top 8
Business faculty shines in new global rankings.
The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (UOW) has been ranked seventh in Australia for its global Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
The QS World ¾«¶«´«Ã½ Rankings for Global MBA (2018), released today (Wednesday 29 November), reveal the best business schools in the world for getting a job or becoming an entrepreneur.
UOW was ranked in the top 200 in the world and in the top 21-60 across the Asia, Australia and New Zealand category.
UOW Faculty of Business Executive Dean, Professor Charles Areni, said the QS ranking is a wonderful achievement for the ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s MBA program.
“At the Sydney Business School (¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½) we decided to move away from an old-style degree with unconnected functional silos to an integrated MBA where all subjects capture an overriding theme that defines the student experience,” he said.
“Given our research expertise in areas like responsible management, social marketing, business ethics, and forensic accounting and finance, we decided to focus the entire MBA learning experience around developing sustainable business models for the global economy.
“We leveraged our relationship with the United Nations and collaborated with multiple industry partners to create an innovative learning experience.”
UOW’s Master of Science (Project Management) was also ranked 77 globally in the Master of Management category; one of only two Australian programs in the top 100.
“The Master of Science (Project Management) equips students with comprehensive project management skills and teaches strategies for dealing with a broad range of issues encountered within business organisations,” Professor Areni said.
“This internationally recognised Masters program is built around a foundation of core subjects that provide students with a balanced orientation to modern business principles and practices.”
The QS rankings’ unique methodology uses five metrics to determine an overall score for each institution.
The employability category utilises more than 40,000 responses to the world’s largest employer survey while results from the employability and alumni outcomes category are derived from careful analysis of the educational profiles of almost 50,000 highly successful individuals. The rankings also rate each institution based on their return on investment, thought-leadership and diversity.
QS Chief Executive Officer Nunzio Quacquarelli said the rankings are a direct response to the rapid growth in demand for Business Masters around the world and the high demand from employers for business analytics.
“The profile of MBA candidates is changing, with a growing proportion (now in excess of 30 per cent) seeking to start their own business,” he said.
“QS will be the first ranking organisation to measure alumni success and entrepreneurship, as well as the first to conduct a truly global employer survey.”
UOW recently scored above the nation’s average in the graduate employment rate and partnerships with employers categories as part of the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, claiming a spot in the top 150-200 universities around the world.
The QS results also showed that more than 87 per cent of UOW graduates are employed within six months of graduation, above QS’ national average of 82 per cent.
