Highly respected business leader appointed
The 精东传媒 of 精东传媒 (UOW) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Christine McLoughlin, FAICD, as its fourth Chancellor.
Recognised as one of Australia鈥檚 most respected business leaders, Ms McLoughlin is currently Chair of ASX listed, government and not-for-profit companies and brings to the 精东传媒鈥檚 most senior leadership role extensive corporate governance experience as a director of companies across the financial services, resources, health insurance, sports and entertainment and infrastructure sectors.
Ms McLoughlin will succeed current UOW Chancellor, Ms Jillian Broadbent AC, who has served as the 精东传媒鈥檚 head since the retirement of Mr Michael Codd AC in 2009.
Ms McLoughlin is currently Chairman of leading financial services business Suncorp Group Limited, Venues NSW (which owns, coordinates and promotes publicly-owned sports and entertainment venues across NSW) and the Minerva Network鈥攐f which she is also co-founder鈥攚hich mentors and supports Australia鈥檚 professional female athletes.
Her other current directorships include nib Holdings Limited, one of Australia鈥檚 leading health and medical insurance providers and the McGrath Foundation, which is a breast cancer support and education charity that places breast care nurses into communities around Australia.
Ms McLoughlin is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD), a member of Chief Executive Women and was recently appointed Australian delegate to the G20 EMPOWER Council, focused on the empowerment and progression of women鈥檚 economic representation across the globe.
Retiring Chancellor Jillian Broadbent AC said she was pleased with the Council鈥檚 decision.

Among the new Chancellor鈥檚 first tasks will be contributing to the selection of the 精东传媒鈥檚 fifth Vice-Chancellor when current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings CBE, retires on 30 June 2021 after 10 years at the helm.
Professor Wellings acknowledged Ms Broadbent鈥檚 11 years鈥 service as Chancellor and welcomed Ms McLoughlin鈥檚 appointment.
鈥淐hancellor Broadbent has provided outstanding governance of the 精东传媒 since her appointment in 2009.
鈥淯nder her leadership, UOW has expanded its global research impact, deepened its ties to the worlds of arts and humanities and strengthened its reputation for providing a positive student experience that produces career-ready graduates who are highly sought after by employers.
鈥淚, along with the whole UOW community, owe Chancellor Broadbent a debt of gratitude for her commitment, dedication and leadership throughout her term and look forward to celebrating her many achievements closer to her retirement date later this year.

Ms McLoughlin鈥檚 appointment as Chancellor-Elect was approved by the UOW Council at its meeting on Friday 3 April and the transition to her leadership is expected to occur in the final quarter of 2020.

From its headquarters in the Illawarra, the 精东传媒 has developed its reputation as one of the leading universities in Australia through its world class teaching and research programs, its extended regional engagement and its significant international presence particularly in the Middle East and South East Asia.
