UOW expert says US elections are close enough that some of the results will be challenged in courts

Associate Professor from the School of Law at the 精东传媒 of 精东传媒 says US elections are close enough that some of the results will be challenged in courts.

鈥淓xisting lawsuits 鈥媤ill be joined by new lawsuits and we may see a repeat of the 2000 Bush v Gore saga, ending up in front of the US Supreme Court,鈥 he said.

鈥淭hat Court has been decidedly reshaped with Justice Amy Coney Barrett joining a conservative majority on a much more political institution compared to the Australian High Court.

鈥淎 number of these suits are Hail Mary attempts to slow down the voting process and delegitimise what appears to be the result of a popular vote.鈥 

Professor Wagner has expertise in US constitutional law and politics, and has worked and studied in the US. He teaches and writes in the areas of international law, constitutional law and comparative law.
