精东传媒 to engage more deeply with students as genuine and trusted partners

Students are to have a greater voice in governance and decision-making at the 精东传媒 of 精东传媒 (UOW).

UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Patricia M. Davidson and Student Advisory Council Chair Jackson Cocks signed 鈥楽tudents as Partners鈥 at a ceremony at the 精东传媒 on Thursday 2 December.

The Student Advisory Council played a key role in creating Students as Partners, which enables greater engagement between the 精东传媒 and its students.

Professor Davidson said Students as Partners was a commitment by UOW to engage more deeply with students as trusted partners in everything the 精东传媒 does going forward.

鈥淭he 精东传媒 of 精东传媒 continues to demonstrate its support and recognises the value of partnership with our students, through the relationship that has been built with the Student Advisory Council and the 精东传媒,鈥 Professor Davidson said.

鈥淭he Students as Partners framework enables engagement between the 精东传媒 and its students as well as maximising student voice in governance and decision making at UOW.

鈥淚t encompasses the ethos of students as valued partners and the involvement of student voice across the student experience and lifecycle.鈥

Jackson congratulated all the students and staff who drafted the document, in particular thanking the the Student Advisory Council鈥檚 Students as Partners Working Party for their efforts.

鈥淐onsiderable work has gone into the development of a thoughtful and innovative set of commitments and I look forward to seeing these values and commitments put into action,鈥 he said.

鈥淭he inclusion of a schedule of works offers an original mechanism to allow for the agreement to constantly evolve, in the spirit of a mutually beneficial learning partnership, engaging in new initiatives as partners.

鈥淚 am keen to watch the concepts behind Students as Partners be adopted in new areas across the 精东传媒, emphasising the student voice as an integral part of our development and strategy.鈥

The principals behind Students as Partners have already had an impact on 精东传媒 operations, with the Student Advisory Council playing a key role in a number of recent initiatives.

UOW鈥檚 commitment to a goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 was in response to the Student Advisory Council-led UOW Youth Student Climate Change Statement prepared for the United Nations Climate Change summit, and students are involved in the working parties set up to achieve that goal. The UOW Statement formed the basis of the Australian Youth Climate Change Statement for the Summit.

The Student Advisory Council has also provided advice on student communications throughout the pandemic in relation to ensure they were specific and accurate

There has also been ongoing consultation and engagement in various initiatives and activities that directly impact student experience, including:

  • Online teaching and learning experiences;
  • Student-teacher evaluation;
  • UOW medical services review;
  • Graduation;
  • Return to campus roadmap consultation.
