International Women’s Day panel addresses financial and housing security

UOW hosts public discussion on economic independence and housing solutions for women

To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) in 2024, the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (UOW) will host a free in-person Luminaries panel discussion at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, focusing on women’s financial freedom and housing stability.

In a country where one in six women have experienced economic abuse and women and girls are the fastest growing group of people experiencing homelessness, economic security and rights have never been more important.

Hosted by Sydney Morning Herald Senior Social Affairs reporter , the event will delve into the critical issues surrounding women's economic empowerment and access to secure housing. The panel will include UOW Chief Integrity Officer Professor , Executive Director of the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre , Gamilaroi woman and UOW Conscious Community Lead Catherine Moyle, and Executive Manager of Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement of The Housing Trust (Illawarra/Shoalhaven) .

The evening will begin with drinks and canapés in the IPAC foyer, accompanied by music from the , followed by the panel discussion from 7pm.

The event is part of UOW’s Luminaries Series which brings together leading UOW researchers, industry experts and thought leaders, in conjunction with UOW Local, which connects the university to the community and industry to creating economic and social opportunities that are inclusive of diverse cultures and perspectives.
