UOW Professor Kashem Muttaqi appointed to key roles with international engineering peak body
Appointments recognise Professors' expertise and contributions to electrical engineering
¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (UOW) Senior Professor has been appointed to two important roles with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the global peak body for electrical and electronic engineering, and related disciplines.
From January 2024, Professor Muttaqi will take on the role of Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, a bi-monthly journal dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering. He will also serve as an Executive Board Member of the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IEEE IAS).
The Industry Applications Society Board unanimously elected Professor Muttaqi to the role of Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, where he will manage the editorial processes and editorial board to uphold the journal’s commitment to excellence.
As Executive Board Member of the IEEE Industry Applications Society Professor Muttaqi will contribute to formulation of policies and collaborate with fellow board members to ensure the fulfillment of IEEE IAS's mission and objectives, steering the society towards continued growth and excellence.
On his appointments, Professor Muttaqi said, “I am truly honoured to assume these roles and contribute to the IEEE Industrial Applications Society with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm, serving in both the Executive Board Member and Editor-in-Chief positions. I hope to leverage these responsibilities and remain steadfast in my commitment to advancing the field of electrical engineering on a global scale.”
Professor Muttaqi is the Director of the Australian Research Council (ARC) which is headquartered at UOW. The Centre leads efforts to address challenges hindering advances in renewable energy. Its primary focus is on devising innovative methods and technologies to seamlessly integrate renewable resources into electricity grids, all the while ensuring the stability of the grid.
He is also a Senior Professor and the Discipline Leader – Electrical Engineering at the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering at UOW.
With 25 years of academic experience, Professor Kashem Muttaqi has authored or co-authored more than 500 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He has successfully supervised more than 29 higher degree research students to completion.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to electrical engineering, in 2023 Professor Kashem Muttaqi was honoured as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for contributions to modelling and control of renewable and distributed energy resources. This acknowledgment, a pinnacle achievement in the global engineering community, solidifies Professor Muttaqi’s position as a thought leader and recognises his leadership and ground-breaking research to advancing the field of electrical engineering.
